The original Combat SoundPad was a bit of a thematic departure from the others in that it didn’t represent an environment, rather a collection of action oriented sounds. I was a bit unsure of how it would work out but it quickly became one of the most used on the site.
Since releasing it, I’ve had tons of requests for “the same thing, only sci-fi”. Needless to say, it’s been on the list for a while.
Finally, after 3 weeks, I’m releasing the ‘sister’ version to the original. Introducing Combat:Future.
I tried to keep this relatively universe neutral – in that it’s got Star Wars-y stuff in it, but also Starship Troopers. My hope was that it would fit in with both military style sci-fi as well as space opera.
As always, it’s far from a complete set. I describe these as utility sounds because they are meant to be representative more than descriptive. i.e. you fire a blaster weapon, not an InTech type III model 216 blaster weapon, if you know what I mean.
As a side note, I had a lot of fun making the *cough* ‘light sword’ *cough* sounds by using Ben Burtt’s original technique from 1977 which involved waving a microphone in front of a speaker playing a pre-recorded buzzing drone sound. Here’s a short video clip where Ben talks about this if you’re interested.
edit: The sounds from Combat:Future have now been added into the Custom Soundpad tool.
